November 24 News: According to foreign media reports, Apple is preparing to use OLED screens made by Samsung and LG on the iPad Pro tablet computer to be released next year. It is said that Samsung Display and LG Display, which currently provide OLED panels for iPhones, may develop new OLED panels for the new tablet PCs that will be released in the second half of 2021.

Samsung Display is transforming a production line at its A4 factory in Asan to produce the OLED screens required for the iPad, and to improve on the original materials.

Under normal circumstances, the use time of a tablet computer is longer than that of a smartphone. Having only one light-emitting layer may inadvertently cause the blue OLED to lose brightness due to long-term use.

People familiar with the matter said that compared with the screen used by the iPhone, Apple requires Samsung Display and LG Display to propose higher specifications for the OLED display that will be used in the iPad Pro.

LG

LG Display has applied the new technology to OLEDs in cars, and the company is using its E5 factory in Gumi to produce OLED screens for cars. LG is using the plant to produce OLED samples for the new iPad Pro.

Samsung Display occupies a dominant position in the application field of OLED mobile phones, while LG Display has been developing OLEDs for automobiles and is expanding its supply to American and European automakers.

However, Apple's plan to use OLED screens for its high-end tablets may be delayed, depending on the scale of miniLED adoption. In addition, Apple is expected to use a backlit LCD panel in the iPad Pro launched in the first half of 2021.
